Retrofit Kit

This PID controller kit is designed for retrofitting the Rancilio Silvia espresso machine. By adding a PID controller to the heater control circuit, the standby brewing water temperature can be controlled to ±1°C accuracy. Thus, it will significantly improve the taste of your espresso. Users can also easily adjust the brew water temperature to suit their own tastes.   This kit will work for the new and older Silvia models.

• The PID controller in this kit is specifically modified for home espresso brewing. Two additional parameters are included to balance the requirements of cold start speed, shot recovery speed, and long-term stability.
• The platinum RTD temperature sensor is more accurate and has greater long-term stability than most thermocouple sensors. The temperature variations within the controller’s environment will not alter the accuracy of its reading.
• All the cables in the kit have higher temperature endurances compared to the original manufacturer cables. We use color-coded cables with either fluoropolymer or silicone insulation, preventing the potential electrical shocks from PVC insulated wires touching the boiler during operation.
• As one of the most compact controllers in the market with a custom-made aluminum enclosure, this controller can be mounted between the group head and steam wand without interfering with their functionalities.
• All buttons on Rancilio Silvia function the same way as they were.

Retrofit Kit with Pre-infusion:

This PID controller kit can control the brew water temperature, steam temperature, and the brew pump. It has all the features as the other listing titled “PID temperature control kit for Rancilio Silvia”, with the addition of steam temperature control and an extraction timer that can be programmed with the pre-infusion function. This kit is compatible with ALL Silvia versions, including the latest V4, V5 (E or M), and V6 (E or M) models.

This kit has the pre-infusion function and the timer can be used as a shot-timer. The pre-infusion is achieved by pumping a small amount of water into the coffee, holding off the pump for a second to let the water soak in, and then starting pumping for 25 seconds. This prevents high-pressure water from contacting the dry coffee powder that can create a fast flow channel, ruining the brewing process. It will improve the consistency of the brewing even if the coffee wasn’t perfectly tamped. The countdown extraction timer contains three segments: pre-infusion pulse (Tp), soak (Td), and brew (Tb). Each segment can be set by the user with a 0.1 second resolution.  When the “>” key is pressed, the controller starts the brewing sequence automatically. The pump can be stopped at any time by pressing the “>” key a second time. This feature allows you to operate the brew pump manually, with the timer as a reference. Users can also bypass the timer to use the switch on the machine for manual control of the brewing process. The countdown timer can also serve as a shot-timer by showing how much brew time remains.
